It’s not mold! Environmental Issues for Schools-Roundtable Discussion
Andrew Fridley, Portland Public Schools and Vonnie Good, Salem-Keizer School District

Metal halide lights, birds in covered play areas, maintenance and custodial practices, mercury in gym floors, ozone generators, bus idling, integrated pest management, fragrances, radon, building design...THESE are the real environmental issues for schools. This roundtable discussion will include these topics and more.

Andrew Fridley is currently the interim manager for health and safety at Portland Public Schools. He has almost 20 years with Portland Public Schools as an environmental specialist. As with many in this industry, his knowledge of this diverse topic has come from direct experience often getting his education after the phone rings.

Vonnie has been the environmental safety specialist for the Salem Keizer School District for 10 years. Vonnie’s job is to create the healthiest and safest environments for students, staff and patrons. She does this through educating groups on what makes an environment healthy or not, and developing and delivering programs related to improving the environment in the district’s facilities and grounds.
